Green Coffee Bean: A Weight Loss Miracle

Green coffee beans may be truly “magical” beans – at least for those seeking weight loss.

Studies have found that consuming extract from green coffee beans can lead you to lose weight. Make them a part of your regular routine, and you may lose several pounds a week.

How It Really Works

Dr. Mehmet Oz started this green coffee bean craze in 2012 when he described the weight loss benefits of the extract on his popular TV show.

His own studies found that dieting patients lost an average of two pounds per week. He did not recommend it for children or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Other studies – on animals and humans – have also been promising.

Green coffee beans have long been thought to aid in the fight against Type II diabetes. Various studies have lauded Chlorogenic Acid, an extract from the bean, which prevents glucose from reaching the bloodstream. But here’s where it gets interesting: as a result of this, metabolism is heightened, and both sugar and fat are burned naturally. The liver burns additional fat, and your immune system is cleaned.

Unlike brown beans, green coffee beans are not roasted at high temperatures, so the Chlorogenic acid is not removed. The green beans may have a more pungent taste, but they are also healthier.

Another option for those who dislike the taste is ingesting the extract in capsule form, which you can find in most vitamin and supplement stores.

And Now the Downsides

This coffee bean extract may be seen as a miracle drug, but you are recommended to drink a lot of water while taking it — think a dozen glasses daily.

Although studies in humans have shown promising results, many experts say that more trials are needed to measure long-term side effects. To date, clinical trials have assessed small weight loss levels over the short-term, so long term risks are still unknown to scientists and doctors.

It is known that the extract can lower your heart rate. But these unroasted green beans also have caffeine, which can cause side effects including increased breathing rate, insomnia, and nervousness.

Not All Green Coffee Bean Extracts Are the Same

It’s important to be aware that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate supplements, so when shopping for capsules, be sure you are buying from a trustworthy source.

You’ll find there are many on the market – some effective, some not. They can also be pricey, make unsubstantiated claims, and leave you wondering if you are making the right choice.

Here’s what you should look for on the label:

  • 50% Chlorogenic Acid
  • No binders, fillers, or any other extra ingredients
  • Recommended dosage of 1600mg a day – 800mg capsules, 2 times a day
  • 100% pure in a vegetarian capsule
  • Made in an FDA registered laboratory
  • Compliant with US Pharmacopeia’s quality standards

Furthermore, you should consult your physician before using to ensure it is safe for you personally. He or she may also be able to direct you to the best brands or sources in your area.
